A cultural heritage overview of
significant places in the defence
of north Queensland during World
War II
(9.8 MB)

Sustainability Minister Kate Jones has released a detailed and well-illustrated new report that puts into context the importance of North Queensland's effort in World War Two.

WWII-NQ: a cultural heritage overview of significant places in the defence of north Queensland during World War II will guide the assessment of cultural heritage significance of places from that era and better inform local councils and communities about places that survive in their localities.

The report forms a part of the Statewide heritage survey, an ambitious project to capture the broadest range and mix of places in the Queensland heritage register.

About 300 wartime places of varying cultural heritage significance have been catalogued as a result.

WWII-NQ is being distributed in hardcopy to north Queensland local authorities.
