History Alive

Journey Through Time
Fort Lytton National Park
Now in its 8th year, History Alive: a journey through time will be held at Fort Lytton National Park on the Queen's Birthday weekend - Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June 2007.
Journey through time from the days of Roman gladiators to the era of the Vietnam war. Feel the thrill of knights' tournaments, sword fighting and archery, music and dance. Based on documented research these presentations of the past are among the most authentic you will ever see. 500 re-enactors will provide the sights, sounds and smells from other times.
Battle re-enactments will span the ages - from the Napoleonic wars through to the modern era. Working colonial and modern artillery, a range of WWII armoured vehicles, and a giant Centurion tank will all be on display.
This action-packed event will take place on the very site of Lytton Fort, one of Brisbane's best-kept secrets. Built in the 1880's to prevent a Russian attack on British colonies in the Pacific, the fortifications continued in use throughout both World Wars, and still stand sentinel on the Brisbane River today.
Watch in awe as once again the Fort's cannons again roar a challenge across the River! Experience a blast from the past that leaves you with a true impression of the military strength of this colonial Fort. As you end your journey take a leisurely stroll around the buildings and gun-pits of the original Fort, or wander through the museums that tell of its history. Don't forget to visit the Historical Association's Canteen, where you can talk with soldiers who actually served at Fort Lytton during World War II.
There will be action and entertainment to last you the whole day and all this for the price of a movie ticket.
