Local government involvement
Local government authorities are encouraged to identify and map koala habitat, and include Koala Habitat Areas within their planning schemes.
Policy 7: Koala habitat assessment and mapping in the Koala Plan provides direction for local governments on koala habitat assessment and mapping. This policy also identifies the requirements and process for obtaining endorsement of a local government koala habitat map.
The following reports are initiatives that local government authorities and the EPA have taken to obtain information about koala populations and habitat in their area. More will be listed in the future.
Please note: these local government reports have been sourced from local government authorities for your information and do not necessarily reflect EPA policy.
Many local government areas also have information about koalas on their websites. If you are interested in finding out more about koalas in your area, visit your local government website, or one for a neighbouring local government area, and search for 'koala'.
